Dean Clarrain (actually a pen-name for Steve Murphy, who would eventually become EIC of Mirage during the late 90's and 2000's during the Tales of the TMNT Vol. 2 and TMNT Vol 4 era) did a great job of exploring real world serious issues in a great all-ages action romp. We would often see the Turtles tackle issues of pollution, poaching, and deforestation, which were all pretty hot-button topics in the 1990's when the issues were coming out.

Johnny Yen of course invokes the visage of the Foot Clan Elite Guard, which is a nice exciting call back to the Return to New York story arc from (off the top of my head) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (vol. 1) #19-21.

The art work on the series was always great, it didn't matter whether it was Ken Mitchroney, Talbot, Chris Allan, Ryan Brown, or Jim Lawson, they all brought such a fun, dynamic, clean art style to the stories that just lept off the page and fully immersed you in the world of the Turtles.

Great stuff, and great recap, man I should really get back to putting out episodes of Turtle Tuesday again.
